Tuesday Night Board Games take place each Tuesday at Quarterstaff Games, at 152 Church St (upstairs) in Burlington, VT.

People usually start gathering between 6:00 and 7:00, with games hopefully getting underway by 7:00. We’re always eager to meet new folks, so come on by, say hello and play some games.

I will probably bring Mansions of Madness today if anyone wants to play. I would also be up for a game of Agricola.

Are there games that can be played in 2ish hours? I work at 10 so I’d need to leave around 9:30 but I’m interested in checking one of these events out

    Hi Mike,

There are usually 3-4 different games going on, each of which lasts from 15 mins to 3 hours, depending. You shouldn’t have any problem finding a game to play within your time limit.

Last night, I noticed a new demo copy of a game I’d never heard of. As I am a sucker for new games, I pulled it out. It turned out to be Letters From Whitechapel, a newly released game set in London’s Whitechapel district in 1888. One player controls Jack the Ripper and the others control 5 detectives and inspectors who are trying to nab him. It plays like Scotland Yard or Fury of Dracula with Jack’s player secretly noting his positions while the detectives investigate for evidence of his passing. Rachel the Ripper (@rachel) evaded Inspectors Clay (me) and Besse (@matthias) for 3 nights and 4 murders before being trapped by our intrepid detectives just blocks from her hideout and from safety.

Even though none of us had played before, it was one of the more tense games I’ve played recently. The theme is well executed and the mechanics simple enough to support it. There’s some back and forth decoying before Jack does his murders, then the chase is on as he tries to get back to his hideout. I’m not sure the game would play well with the full 6 as advertised on the box, but it was excellent with 3. I wouldn’t mind playing again, and I’d like to try the role of Jack to see what it’s like to be chased about the district.

Elsewhere in the game room, I noticed a 4 player game of Antike led by Munk (@munk). Several investigators were attempting to rid Arkham of Horrors, while across the aisle more investigators tried to prevent Madness from taking hold in a Mansion full of the stuff. Sarah (@sarahcooper) bought a copy of Catan:Rails Across America and was playing with a few others.

A few games of Dominion and 7 Wonders ended the night as people trickled out. One of the busier nights I’ve seen!

This was the second time I’ve played Mansions of Madness, the first being at PAX East a couple weeks back. I dug it more this time, getting that it’s a much more Lovecraftian investigation sort of thing, rather than the gung-ho tommy gun lunacy of Arkham Horror.

@joshuanagle was our Keeper in a scenario in which @danielwilliams was Harvey “Badass Shriveler” Walters, @aslani7 was Joe “What’s a Shoggoth?” Diamond and I played Sister “Can’t Finish a Jigsaw Puzzle” Mary.

We played it cautious with the cultists, mostly avoiding them, which allowed Josh to build up several masses to summon a pair of shoggoths, a hound of Tindalos and a cthonian. That was bad. We survived mostly due to the Keeper’s forgetfulness in attacking the investigators, for which we were grateful, really.

Sister Mary’s holy ward pushed the shoggoth out of the chapel long enough to allow Harvey and Joe to get their licks in against the cthonian, killing it and winning the scenario on the last possible turn. Totally didn’t see that coming. I think it’s a knack of Dan’s.
