My experience, from organizing the Middlebury Game Day last time, is that there are more kids than usual. It”s held in the public library, which gets the word out. Right now I’m trying to work on ways of better accomodating younger kids. (younger than 12 or so) So I expect many kids to show up. Have any ideas of games that work well with this age group? I typically use Transamerica/Transeuropa in the 10-12 age. I saw a shark game that seemed to work well last time. Other ideas?

Transamerica and Transeuropa is great. Bandu, Toc Toc Woodman and other dexterity games work. Spot It is fantastic. Magic Hill andother kid Ravensburger games work. Lego games, King of Tokyo… Bottom line: lots of games work.

I’ll bring Bandu and Toc Toc Woodman.

Anyone else like Eclipse? What about Dominant Species?

    Anyone considering any roleplaying?

It’s always on my mind, @huntergreen. Wanna help beta test another Ghostbusters adventure?

I would actually like to try Last Will, Justin. And a game of Dominant Species would be fun. I have not played in awhile. Although Britannia is hard to pass up. Too many games to choose from.

Been a while since I played Dominant Species, add me to the list of interested folks. I strongly second Justin’s recommendation of dexterity games for the kids. At Carnage, Traci’s take-away after an hour was “it was like school”. Now mind you, she likes school so that wasn’t a completely negative comment but I’m not sure it’s what you guys were aiming for. I really think she would have appreciate a game like Woodman where every 5 or ten minutes the whole thing falls apart and everybody laughs. My 2€.

So I am in for Dominant Species and/or Game of Thrones. I will also bring some kid friendly games…(and maybe a kid too!)

I’d love to play A Game of Thrones. Can I get in the game. And, I’ll bring Last Will for sure.

So A Game of Thrones….. Looks like maybe 4 players right now.

    Justin
    Myself
    Matt Taylor
    S. Chair ?

Thinking maybe playing this first thing… 10ish. This gives us the rest of the day to play other games. Two more can play so let us know.

Later in the day I would love to get a game of Dominant Species going as well.

Myself and Bill are interested. The game takes 6…. so sometime late afternoon? Also should have the Dominant Species Card game by then.

    Last Will squeezed inbetween Justin?

REQUEST FOR AN HOUR OF HELP (playing games)

Hi all, at the last Middlebury Game Day, we got a lot of walk in traffic, much of which was younger kids. This is great and it’s a terrific opportunity to grow our hobby. We need several grown-ups who are willing to help teach kids some games, to help to get them started and basically be there for organization and support. If we get several people willing to help out, we can make this work.

    Here’s what we need:
Bring some games that are appropriate for the 8-12 year old age group.
Be willing to play with some kids for an hour or so.

Justin and I will be bringing some games (I don’t have a ton of age appropriate games myself, so please, bring some if you can), and I’m going to try to coordinate the grown-up “ambassadors”, and I’ll fill in as an ambassador as I can.

If you can help out by bringing a game, teaching/playing for an hour or both, please respond to this post.

    Thanks.
    Your Middlebury GMG Coordinator,
    Chuck

Rod – I’m glad to play GOT as the 10 AM game so count me in. (I’m fine with stepping down if you get too many takers as well.) DS later in the day if it works out is good for me as well.

Chuck – I have no kids games but would be willing to offer 2-3 hours of time during the day if I can be of help.

If anyone has a copy of A La Carte, that would make a good kid friendly game (and fun for adults too). TTR is also relatively kid friendly and Catan is good for new gamers and gamers to be.

Rod, can we push AGoT until after lunch? I’d like to help Chuck B with kids games for a while and figure earlier is better than later fornthe kids.

I am absolutely fine with that Justin. I will be there all day! I have Grand Prix and Wooly Bully for kids games. Also plan on getting King of Tokyo by then…. it went over well at the Carnage Childrens event. If you think of anything else guys, post it and I will see if I have it or can lay my hands on it.
