Played Die Macher Friday night pre Unity. Game on German politics….I know sounds dry and boring…but really is a great game, with some deep strategies. Been around since 1986.
At Unity proper new to me games I played:
Flash Point http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/100901/flash-point-fire-rescue
Belfort http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/50750/belfort
Ghost Stories http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/37046/ghost-stories
I really enjoyed Belfort. It is a combo worker placement/area control game. I got an Endeavor feel from the game. Belfort really hooked me….stopped on the way home and picked up a copy. Game anyone? Flash Point was a variation on all the co-operatve games out there. You are trying to save people from a burning building without having that building fall down on you. It plays alot like Pandemic or Defenders of the Realm. The theme was well done. I don’t know how I missed Ghost Stories for three years… this is one of the better co-op games. The theme is excellent! You are monks trying to save a village in the mythical far east from ghosts. Quite a good game.
I also got in games of San Juan, King of Tokyo, Kingdom Builder and of course The Resistance. Gotta love the Resistance, especially when you really don’t know 8 of the 9 other people sitting at the table with you….Viva la Resistance!
There was alot of new games getting played down at Unity. Kingdom Builder, Belfort, Castles of Burgundy, Flash Point, Eclipse (sorry I did not get into a game of this!) Eminant Domain, German Railways, Core Worlds, etc….
Overall Unity was a great success and alot of fun. I spoke briefly with one of the organizers and he was estimating 550 people playing board games! Awesome time as usual. Met up with some friends, played some games… can’t go wrong!
