Given that we have no dedicated game store, it’s hard to locate new gamers in this area. If anyone is interested, leave a message. If we end up having enough gamers, then we can begin scheduling local events on a monthly basis, especially with the winter months coming up.

I know how it is. We too have a hard time finding other gamers up in Orleans County without a game store. It is a challenge. Good luck to you!

Maybe fliers at the local colleges? Castleton, Green Mountain and St. Joesph. I have always been surprised that the Rutland area does not have a game store. Hope you find some gamers. :)

What about creating an event to draw local gamers together? A periodic game night for people to drop in and socialize.

thanks, good ideas all around. Bethany – you’re in much the same situation as we are, with no game store – anything else in particular you found that worked?

Each month on the 3rd Saturday, we have a board game night. I try to keep it consistant so that hopefully, people in the area will come to know it exists and can count on coming each month. I use all forms of free advertising. All our local newspapers have calendar or event sections and I always send something to them each month about the game night. I have also plastered the area with fliers. It seems the best places to put fliers is at the grocery stores. Every new person that has come to the game day has seen the flier at a grocery store. I also have brought fliers to Carnage although that hasn’t drawn anyone yet but I have heard from a couple of people who saw the fliers at Carnage say that they want to try to make it to the game night sometime.

We had attracted quite a few people with the fliers but they were all (except a husband/wife) new to the area. They had just moved here and were looking for things to do. Unfortunately, they moved away as quickly as they moved here. Attracting the already existing gamers that have lived here a while has been challenging and I cannot think of how to reach them.

I’ve had several people, I believe local gamers, who have called or emailed as a result of seeing the fliers, and they sound interested, but when it comes to attending, they never show. I figure that eventually if I keep things consistant that the local, apparently shy games will eventually attend.

I do know that Eric Bussiere organized the national game day at the local library in Middlebury last November. You could see if the library is doing that again (Nov 12th) and hopefully talk with Eric and/or get invovled with that in Middlebury.

As I understood it, Eric Bussiere’s Gathering of the Gamers just coincidentally fell on the same day as the national game day. I haven’t seen any sign of if/when the next one is.
